The community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Cathy Moore, a talented musician and a respected teacher who influenced multitudes of students over more than three decades.
Cathy died after a brief sickness, which left her family, former coworkers, and numerous students in despair at the sudden passing of a selfless woman.
As a teacher, Cathy worked at the college from 1988 to 2021, a stable and motivating presence for those who stepped into her classroom.
Students recall small, significant times, like the way she celebrated every win, no matter how small, her gentle motivation during difficult times, and the warmth in every rehearsal.
She had a gift for making students believe they could achieve things before they even felt ready to do them.
According to her family, she died peacefully in the midst of her children and husband. They said she was “a gifted musician and a generous teacher whose love of music and learning touched countless lives.”
To those who knew her, she infused love into everything she did, grooming not just musicians but young people who were confident.
In their tributes to her, Cathy’s former students describe her as the teacher who listened, made them feel safe, and the friend who was with them even after they graduated.
Her legacy will live on in every song she taught, all the children she motivated to dream big, and every life she guided.
Though she brought light to her community, that light will continue to shine as she will be deeply missed.
