Lagos is a vibrant city with so much to offer. Here’s an ideal 3-day travel itinerary for tourists in Lagos:
Tourism is fun in Lagos when you’ve made the proper plans for it, trust me on this. In Lagos, poor planning can change the destiny of your trip, and that’s why you need an ideal travel itinerary.
Lagos is a very lively city bustling with so many activities and places to explore, but what can be tiring is not the travel itself, it’s what comes before the travel. It’s the ultimate stage of endless planning, unplanning, and replanning so that you can come up with the perfect itinerary, or else your tour ends up going wrong. That’s it for us lazy souls, we give up on the whole idea of traveling immediately and just stick to ‘touring’ Netflix instead, sipping fanta.
Are you exhausted thinking about where to tour in Lagos and how to schedule the entire trip? Here is a 3-day travel itinerary for tourists in Lagos for your Lagos tour. Chill and enjoy as you read.
Day 1:
In the morning:
On the morning of the first day, the best thing to do is to reserve your energy, go to a place that’s relaxing and refreshing. Try to save up that energy for the latter, else two hours into tourism, you’re already thinking, daydreaming about your bed when the fun is just getting started.
National Museum, Lagos
A good place to start your day is the National Museum, Lagos, where you can discover Nigerian history, art, and culture like never before. If you’re not a fan of this, no qualms, you don’t have to pretend you’re a history buff because the artistic tableau of Nigerian carvings, statues, and relics will steal your breath. It’s still perfect for your exploration.
Location: Onikan, Lagos Island, Lagos State
To enjoy your visit:
Do not touch exhibits; try as much as possible to keep your hands to yourself.
Flash photography isn’t allowed(the light could cause damage to the artworks).
Keep up a respectful behavior (Never forget that at home)
In the afternoon
LUFASI Nature Park- Lekki Urban Forestry and Animal Shelter Initiative
A step into this completely takes your worries away, unless your problems are top tier 3, everything must bow at the sight of nature. This place serves all with its facilities, both children and adults. Your children get to have their fun while you have yours, too.
Location: Eti-Osa, Lekki, Lagos
Entry Fee: Adults: #1,000
Children: #500
Opens: Monday– Saturday from 9 am- 6 pm
Sunday from 12 pm-6 pm
In the evening:
Victoria Island
You can spend one or two hours at Victoria Island just to enjoy a stroll. Don’t forget to visit top-notch bars and restaurants to have a taste of local or international dishes.
What to wear: A thick outfit to shield you from the cold evening
Comfortable footwear (especially for a stroll)
Day 2:
For me, the second day of travel is for fun-filled activities, time to summon the kid in me. I call it the ‘beach day’, what’s life without a little bit of vibes and daring adventures? I choose this day to tick the crazy things I want to do off my bucket list, not the crazy things that would land me in the afterlife. The best time of the day for this adventure is in the morning, just like a pretty little squirrel ready to bounce and chase the next big thing.
In the morning/Afternoon:
Tarkwa Bay Beach
Tarkwa Bay Beach is your go-to option when it comes to having fun and a wild beach experience. The only way to access the beach is by boat since it’s an island. Do the fun things like surfing, joining bonfires, kayaking, cliff diving, horse riding, paddling, and swimming (with a life guard, please). Also, help maintain a clean environment (no littering).
Entry Fee: #1,000
Location: Near Lagos harbor in Nigeria
Opens: 24 hours, 7 days
In the afternoon/Evening:
Lekki Conservation Centre
My first visit to Lekki Conservation Centre felt like a mini jungle experience, but what was shocking was the monkey I almost bumped into, like, ‘naso una dey do for here?’ You get to experience wildlife first-hand— the birds, monkeys, fish ponds, and ancient crocodiles (there’s an enclosure to view crocodiles, though, you’re safe).
The most distinct fact about the centre is that it serves as a home to Africa’s longest canopy walk, where you can enjoy the overall view of the centre
This is probably where you’ll spend most of your time. There are just so many things to see and try out, like the treehouse cabin, boardwalk, and picnic areas.
Entry Fee: Adults- #1,500
Children: #500
Canopy Walk: #1,500
Location: Km 19 Lekki- Epe Expressway, Lekki Peninsula 2, Lekki, Lagos.
Opens: 10 am- 4 pm
Day 3:
On this day, you can explore relaxing destinations as the tour is coming to an end. You don’t want to get too worn out, especially if you’re returning to a busy work schedule.
In the morning:
Lekki Arts and Crafts Market
Lekki Arts and Crafts Market is where you get to see art lovers in their full bargaining mode. Like the name implies, you get to admire and buy nice artworks. It is a beautiful and fun sight to behold, people bargain like they’re pricing pepper, and of course, sellers are also ready for the back and forth till they eventually meet in the middle.
Location: Oba Elegushi St, Lekki Peninsula 2, Lekki, Lagos.
Opens: Monday- Sunday from 9 am- 6 pm
In the afternoon:
Freedom Park
What we now know as the Freedom Park was formerly a prison built in the colonial era. The cultural centre not only talks about history, but also houses amazing art galleries, a basketball court, an amphitheatre, and picnic tables
Location: Old Prison Ground, 1, Hospital Road, adjacent St’ Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Entry Fee: #700
Opens: Monday- Saturday from 10 am- 10 pm
Friday from 10 am- 11 pm
In the evening:
Yellow Chilli Restaurant and Bar
The best way to end your tour is by treating yourself to a nice restaurant, it’s a pat on the back for successfully completing a fine adventure. My top pick is Yellow Chilli Restaurant, where you get to enjoy that confirm Nigerian jollof. The menu features a blend of local and African cuisine. If you ask me, that’s more than enough to conclude my travel satisfactorily.
Location: No. 35 Joel Ogunnaike St, Ikeja GRA, Ikeja 101233, Lagos
Meal Price Range: #4,000- #8,000
There you go, no need to bother about planning, unplanning, and replanning. On your tour, don’t forget to keep your flashy things and money where eyes and hands can’t reach.
