Things To Do in Abuja
This list features 7 of the most fun, good-vibing and memorable spots in Abuja.
1. Wonderland Twin Peaks
If you enjoy exercising your legs and getting sweeping views of the capital, Wonderland Twin Peaks should be at the top of your list of things to do in Abuja. Located in plain sight in the Kukwaba district, the twin hills fit the profile of a delightful escape from the whir of the city. It is an excellent pick for those wanting to surmise nature, inhale fresh air, and perhaps even exert a little energy.
Wonderland Twin Peaks has marked trails and is accessible for all skill levels. If you’re an early riser chasing sunrises, and an afternoon person looking for adventure, or maybe just a weekend extraordinaire trying to fit in an experience, the peaks are a great option for just that. Climbing the steep trail is worth the view when you arrive at the peaks. You’ll see the prominent skyline of Abuja with the National Stadium, City Gate, and other buildings as backdrops to your effort. It is not all hiking. The surrounding area to Wonderland Twin Peaks is quiet and serene for having a picnic, practicing yoga, or simply sitting still and thinking.
Location: Kukwaba District, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory
Entry: No fee(it’s a natural formation)
2. Jabi Boat Club (JBC
Now, if you are more of a water person, welcome to Jabi Boat Club. This beautiful destination sits at the edge of Jabi Lake and is practically a mini beach seashore resort minus the ocean. You have water sports, food, music, and a view that will take you out of your busy, high pace and have you wondering if you’re somewhere other than the capital.
The club is all about variety, from jet-skiing, floating on the lake, to pontoon rides, kayaking, and pedal boats, there is something for everyone.
Let’s talk food, too, because yes, I want to mention the restaurant. You have a perfect blend of a Nigerian taste and the familiarity of international food options, like pepper soup and shawarma, that are hits every time. Close your eyes and imagine sitting on the patio with takeout suya watching the sunset— pure bliss. But remember, it is not just about the food and boating. They know how to party too, or a least some kind of party.
Every night of every week has something in store. Mondays are for wine and painting, Tuesdays for karaoke and board games, Wednesdays for ladies night, Thursdays– salsa dancing, Fridays are when you get to enjoy the DJs, party vibe activated, and Sundays are for family brunch.
Just a night will have you coming back.
Location: 26, Alex Ekwueme Way, Jabi District, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

3. Jabi Lake Mall
If you want a break from the hot air, head to Jabi Lake Mall to feel some AC, grab some bags with stuff in them, and pop some popcorn. This mall is one of the best shopping locations in Abuja, and you quickly realize why it’s a go-to destination for shopping. The mall offers the perfect opportunity to shop, eat, and observe people.
All the normal players are part of this offering—locally owned fashion boutiques, national and international chains, electronics stores, grocery stores (a favourite of mine).
But it’s not simply a retail experience. The mall is an experience. The food court is worth a visit. With everything from hot jollof rice to Chinese take-out and American beef burgers, you can find freshly prepared tastes from around the world, and quickly.
And don’t forget the Silverbird Cinema, whenever you are in the mood for a Nollywood or Hollywood drama, which has plenty of action. The good screens, nice popcorn, and soft seats make it a cozy space to relax.
End your trip with Jabi Lake Mall’s most unique feature, Jabi Lake– this is where you have a picturesque view of the sun setting as you leisurely stroll along the shoreline. It’s a nice way to end a shopping trip, particularly when the sun is setting. You may get lucky and find a show, event, or live performance that takes place.
Location: Bala Sokoto Way, Jabi, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
Entry: No fee
4. Thought Pyramid Art Centre
Art lovers, this is for you. Thought Pyramid Art Centre is one of the signature Art Galleries in Abuja, and going inside is made all the more compelling as to why; the Essence of the space is to promote, encourage, and foster art in the community and engage and invite everyone to the artistic conversation.
The gallery has a lot of contemporary art from Africa, including more exciting paintings, sculptures, and installations. You’ll see notable works by artists like Ben Osawe and Bruce Onobrakpeya, and also other new talents that are contributing to the new definition of what African art is today. Even if you are not an art person, I can guarantee you’ll find something that excites you— it might be the love of color, the story of the art itself, or the energy of the room.
But art is one thing. The center also hosts regular workshops, talks, live performances, and back-to-back exhibitions, comprising both artists and art lovers. It is a place that experiences constant change, ensuring that you find something fresh and inspiring on each visit.
Love some food while the creative juices are flowing? You can check out the cozy restaurant, Spice Platter. It is just perfect for a laid-back meal after sightseeing at the gallery. You can sit back and enjoy a good meal with all of the history of your time at the gallery sinking in.
Location: 18 Libreville Crescent, Wuse, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

5. Usuma Lower Dam
If you want a nature experience, you can’t go wrong with Usuma Lower Dam. This is nature in a pure and raw state. It’s around 45 minutes from central Abuja, well hidden from the action of the city, but well worth the trip. Think clear water and rolling green hills, no end to the greens. You can hike, fish, canoe, or simply lie out your mat and have a peaceful picnic.
It doesn’t normally fall on the tourist radar, which is part of the reason it feels unique. You might want to go solo to get some journaling or clearing your head done, or simply want to hang out with a couple of your favorite people somewhere more chill. This place offers peace and privacy. You can come along with food, drinks, and anything else you may need. Sometimes, local guards are paid a small amount to have access to the best of what Usuma has to offer. Nothing formal – so it’s good to keep that in mind when you are there. If you’re a photographer or nature/bird lover, or looking for an adventure, you’ll also find something here.
Location: Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
Entry: Fee(asides tour guide fee)
6. National Children’s Park and Zoo
If you’re looking for a family-friendly place that provides animals, picnics, lakes, and learning, all in one place, this is the one. Located on the quiet end of the Asokoro area, the National Children’s Park & Zoo is where fun meets learning. Beyond the waterfront, you can view the Aso Rock from here.
Lions, hyenas, colorful parrots, and zebras are the main highlights of the zoo– children and adults can closely observe wildlife’s beauty. Children experience an adventure with the slides, swings, and climbing frames. For family picnics, wide spaces are available to spread out blankets and eat.
Another highlight of this park is the calm lake. Envision fish swimming slowly below the surface of the lake as ducks glide on the surface— a sight to behold. Here, your children also get to learn as there’s provision for conservation and environmental education. Schools frequently take students on excursions to this park, while parents get a chance to take wholesome photographs of their children interacting with animals and nature.
And yes, camel and horseback riding is for the extra thrill. Just make sure you bring your camera, this is a memory-making place.
Location: Off Central Business District by Asokoro, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
Entry: 1,000 (Adults)
500 (Children)
7. Zuma Rock
Finally, let’s finish with the literal gigantic guardian of the gates to Abuja—Zuma Rock. There is no way to miss this huge natural monolith just outside the city. Over 700 meters high, Zuma Rock is one of the tallest and most distinguished outcrops in Nigeria. It is a site that has a history as well as a mystery.
One of the most intriguing things about Zuma Rock is the large facial feature that appears almost carved into the surface of the rock. There are many oral traditions from local people about this rock, and visitors to Abuja can often be in disbelief when they come face to face with it. Whether you’re looking for an experience regarding geology, spirituality, or just good ol’ Instagram photo opportunities, you can have it all at Zuma Rock.
Zuma Rock is sacred to Gwari people, and there is no access to the very top, but there are plenty of other ways to take it all in. You can hike around the base, wander around the surrounding landscape, or just vibe with the energy of it. It is also a great place for quiet reflection or a peaceful picnic.
If you’ve decided to add some more grounded experiences to your time in Abuja and some stories from the land, Zuma Rock should not be missed.
