It is not very often that one gets to have a literal adventure and fun land smack-dab in the heart of a city. But luckily for the people of Abuja and anyone visiting that vibrant city, they are part of the fortunate ones.
This is because right in the heart of Abuja lies Nigeria’s first amusement park, called Magicland, formerly known as Wonderland. A thrilling place filled with fun, adventure, and laughter.
The Amusement Park currently holds the title as the oldest and largest amusement park in the whole country and has somehow managed to evolve with the changing tides to still earn its place as one of the most beloved holiday and fun destinations to visit in the state.
The Castle-like Entrance
Amusement parks are rife all around Nigeria, so for an amusement park to be named as one of the best tourist sites in a city is a bit rare. This is not the case in Magicland, and I strongly attribute this to its marvelous attention to aesthetics.
The first thing you notice when you enter the park is that it feels like you are a knight entering the gate of a Camelot amazing entrance. You get my point, right?
Okay, I am overindulging in my imagination, but really, the large stone entrance complete with turrets and towers does bring to mind those old Disney cartoons we know and love. Plus, the Welcome poster at the entrance is just so cute.
A Fusion of Natural and Modern Delights
Magicland’s perfect location in the heart of Abuja makes it easy for many families looking for a fun activity for their kids to make the easy decision to visit the park. It is a great hangout spot for Friends seeking fun and laughter.
The park manages to incorporate itself into the natural elements it was built around, offering a serene environment with lush greenery, carefully maintained gardens, and concrete pathways amid the laughter and screams of delight.
Its spacious layout and cheerful colors, and music also make it easy to create a lively and energetic atmosphere that is very infectious. It is really hard to feel sad amid so much excitement.
Home of Thrilling Rides and Games
The Park boasts quite an amazing range of rides and games that are fit for every age group, depending on the level of thrill that you are looking for.
Adventurers and adrenaline junkies will love the roller coster ride, with it amazing twist and turns. You will also love the super spin towers that propel you into the air in dizzying spins and turns. Let’s not forget the Flying Towers, which launch you into the air where you can see the most breathtaking view that almost gives you a heart attack when the drop comes.
The Watersplash ride is also an exciting game for both adults and older children, and a chance to cool off under the hot Abuja sun.
If you prefer more relaxing rides that are also fun, you can go for the Carousel rides, and the body-jerking, gentle bumper cars and you don’t to miss the ferry ride that gives you a beautiful view of the whole park and some when you get to the top.
Other fun games include a Bull-ride that will test your strength and the Arcade Center filled with modern and classic games. They offer a chance for guests to showcase their game skills, win different prizes, and compete with friends.
Apart from the games and rides, the park is also a popular place to celebrate special occasions, offering a large space for birthday parties, friendship anniversaries, and picnics.
A Magical Food Hall
You are sure to rack up a hefty appetite while having all that fun, and Magicland, Abuja, understands this perfectly. The park offers several eating options, including restaurants serving both international and Nigerian dishes. Additionally, there are several kiosks and food stalls scattered around the park where you can get snacks, finger foods, and drinks, including park staples like hot dogs and cotton candies galore.
An Affordable Fun Haven
One of the best parts of Magicland’s best features is its affordability. Entrance fees go for as little as ₦1500, and individual rides usually vary in amount, going from as low as ₦1200 to ₦3000. They also offer a full access package for unlimited rides for just 18,000 naira. That’s what I call a steal for a whole day of fun.
Ticket fees can be purchased online at the entrance to the park.
A Magical Memory
The simple truth is that one of my best memories growing up was going to an amusement park, and even as an adult, I still get really excited to go. A day at the amusement park doesn’t just end, it becomes a magical memory rekindling your inner child and a chance to rediscover yourself.
Beyond Magicland Amusement Park’s reputation as the largest and oldest park in Nigeria. Its attention to detail, the professional service of its staff and the opportunity it gives people to leave behind the burdens of adulthood and the concrete jungle of the city to let loose and have fun are part of what makes the amusement park so iconic.
