Elk Grove community is shocked after a terrible and gruesome series of events that involved Marvin Morales.
He was a former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy with drug abuse issues in the past, which had already drawn the attention of the public.
Police have it on record that early Tuesday morning, Morales stabbed his son inside their home on Ferrel Way.
The child’s mother saw the attack happen through live feed from a home security camera when she was at work. She immediately called the authorities, afraid for both her children.
Upon arrival at the scene, they found the child fatally wounded, and Morales had already fled the scene. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
His 6-year-old sister was not hurt in the incident physically, but witnessing the violence, is mentally unbalanced.
Officers saw Morales’s SUV on Interstate 5 within a few hours and gave chase across several counties.
Spike strips burst his tires, bringing the chase to an abrupt end and throwing his vehicle into a ditch.
Multiple officers opened fire in the chaos, and Morales was shot, which later led to his death at a hospital.
Neighbours in the otherwise serene community are finding it hard to understand how he could do such harm after he once swore to protect the people.
Many remember the viral video from a body cam in 2023, where Morales overdosed on drugs that he stole while he was on duty.
That was a clear sign that his life was going out of control. Investigations are still ongoing.
The grieving mother and a mentally scarred child look towards a future that has changed due to one man’s destructive tendencies.
