Afrobeats superstar Davido has once again reminded fans that greatness often begins with humble moments and bold dreams. In a heartfelt backstage chat with music executive Bankulli during his 5iveAlive tour stop in Toronto, Davido shared a throwback story that left many inspired.
The singer recalled his early days in Atlanta, when he used his father’s Rolls-Royce to buy McDonald’s so that he could get a chance to freestyle in front of Don Jazzy and D’Banj. “I went with my papa’s car, Chairman’s Rolls-Royce, 50 years old!, just to get food so I could rap for them,” he said, laughing.
Davido described how Don Jazzy gave him a long, thoughtful look after the freestyle, as if to say, “This boy get talent.”
Today, Davido is not just performing; he’s shutting down arenas with crowds of 30,000 fans, and he’s aiming for 60,000 next year. When asked why he still pushes so hard despite already being rich, Davido said, “It’s not about the money. If I stop today, I still have billions. But I love my job.”
His words, filled with passion and purpose, are a reminder that the journey to success isn’t always about fame or fortune, it’s about doing what you love and staying consistent.
