The community of Belleville, Ontario, is mourning the sudden passing of Dakota Jamie Holgate, who died on Monday, January 19, 2026, just nine days after his 34th birthday.
Dakota is remembered as a vibrant and energetic young man who worked as a correctional officer at Warkworth Institution, where colleagues valued his dedication and positive attitude. Friends and family describe him as a “bright light” whose genuine love for people and animals was always felt.
He was a devoted father to his daughter, Lily, and his son, Jaxon, who were the center of his world. He is also deeply missed by his parents, Lisa Holgate and Michael Morris, his brother and best friend Brody, and his extended family.
Memorial Details: A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Gerry Masterson Community Centre in Corbyville, where loved ones gathered to honor his memory.
Alongside flowers, the family has graciously accepted donations to support the post-secondary education of his children.
