The community of Lexington is deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden loss of Barbara Hartwell. She passed away following a devastating winter weather crash late Saturday night.
Around 9 p.m., Barbara was walking along the sidewalk on South Main Street near Wilfred Avenue when a vehicle traveling south lost control on the icy roads.
The car slid off the slippery pavement, struck her, and plunged down a nearby embankment. Due to the dangerous winter storm conditions, emergency crews could not immediately remove the vehicle from the scene.
Tragically, Barbara’s body was discovered the following morning in a wooded area near where the car had come to rest. The driver, Luis Briceno, and his two juvenile passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital before being released.
Neighbors will always remember Barbara as a quiet, kind person who warmly greeted everyone she met. As police continue to investigate this heartbreaking accident, the community is coming together to mourn her loss.
