The United States government has recently issued a travel advisory statement urging American citizens not to travel to Nigeria due to rising security risks.
Per this statement, it highlights several areas of concern, including but not limited to: frequent kidnapping, terrorism, declining healthcare facilities, and armed gang activities.
The U.S State Department, in this statement, has described 18 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as red zones due to the prevalence of violent crime and terrorism. Some of these states include: Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, the Niger Delta, etc.
The State Department also stressed caution about deteriorating healthcare facilities that do not meet the United States or European standards.
The State Department of the United States further advised travellers to be vigilant, avoid certain areas, and, more importantly, to secure proper medical and evacuation insurance before travelling to Nigeria.
Nigeria and its states were not the only locations the State Department advised against. In their statement, they stated citizens should beware of other African countries such as Somalia and Libya.
