Nigerian singer Ayoleyi Solomon, better known as Reekado Banks, has opened up again about his exit from Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, admitting he left too soon.
Speaking on the Echo Room Podcast, the singer explained that his decision was not caused by conflict but by youthful eagerness.
“It wasn’t a fight. I was young and focused on what I wanted. My contract had ended two years earlier, and after five years at Mavin, I just felt it was time to go,” he said.
Reekado admitted he soon discovered the reality of being on his own. “I thought I was ready, but I later realized my move was premature.
The journey was tougher than I imagined,” he confessed.
He also recalled a funny memory with Don Jazzy.
When asked about the best advice he got from his former boss, he laughed and said: “It wasn’t advice. He just told me, ‘I’m not going to beat you.’ Nobody go beat me.”
This is not the first time Reekado has shared these feelings.
In July 2025, he revealed on The Esther Show that leaving Mavin forced him to grow up quickly.
According to him, staying longer under Don Jazzy’s wings might have made him less responsible for his failures.
Reekado officially announced his departure in 2018, describing it as peaceful and filled with gratitude. He praised Don Jazzy for treating him like family and giving him a platform to shine.
Today, he admits that while his decision shaped him, the timing may not have been right. His reflection shows the struggle many young stars face when stepping out on their own.
