Dino Melaye, former Senator representing Kogi West, has made strong allegations against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming it has been overtaken by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 1, 2025, Melaye, who recently defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that the PDP now takes directives from the APC.
Melaye claimed that the PDP now receives dates for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings and National Working Committee (NWC) meetings directly from the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, calling the PDP a “parastatal” of the APC.
He pointed out the contradictions in the behavior of PDP governors, stating that they no longer act as the opposition but as partners to the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, criticized Melaye’s defection and support for the ADC coalition.
Olayinka accused Melaye of being a “bad egg” for not participating in his own election in Kogi State, even calling Melaye out for staying at home on election day while busy with social media content. Olayinka emphasized that Melaye, who failed to vote in his own election, was now speaking about forming a coalition.
This public disagreement highlights the tensions in Nigerian politics, as the shift of prominent figures between parties continues to stir controversy.
