The Anderson, Indiana community is grieving the tragic death of 17-year-old Tianna Harris, who was fatally shot inside her home on West 38th Street.
The incident occurred early in the morning on December 28, 2025. Police responded to the home around 5 a.m., where they found Tianna suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital but sadly passed away from her injuries.
Her mother, Tia Holmes, 38, has been charged with reckless homicide and neglect of a dependent. According to court documents, Holmes told investigators she believed an intruder was in the house. She stated she saw a shadow near the bathroom and fired her weapon, only to realize moments later that she had shot her daughter.
Witnesses reported hearing Holmes cry out that she thought the person was her ex-husband, against whom she held a protective order.
Tianna was a student at Anderson High School, where students and staff recently gathered for a vigil to honor her memory. Friends and teachers remember her as a bright young woman with a warm smile who was a friend to many.
