The Haitian Music community is mourning the death of 72-year-old guitarist, singer, and beloved co-founder of Magnum Band, Dadou Pasquet.
Dadou was widely known as one of Konpa’s most influential figures. His music has shaped generations, and his legacy will continue to live through Haitian culture.
People who knew and loved him, fans, fellow musicians, and friends described his death as losing “a light that never dimmed.”
One musician, in his tribute to Dadou, said he had been playing along to Dadou’s music just hours before news of his death reached him, and stated that it had been like a last hug from the legend.
Recalling the retrouvaille party with Magnum Band in Miami on June 19, 2002, Volleyball players also expressed their grief at his passing.
His coworkers say his smile was “full of light,” and his tender insights encouraged them in their good and bad days.
Dadou has guided younger artists for years, inspired and brought people together through his music that mixed soul, culture, and unfiltered emotion.
Condolences are being offered worldwide from fans to his wife, children, brother, and the whole of the Magnum Band.
Dadou Pasquet’s influence as a Giant of Haitian music will go on to motivate generations to come. His voice, his guitar, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of people who loved him.
