The music industry are deeply saddened over the loss of the Warm, soulful voice, Donna Jean Godchaux known for her touch of Gospel and Grace to the Grateful Dead’s music, has died at the age of 78.
She passed away at Alive Hospice in Nashville after a long battle with cancer, her death was confirmed by her family. Being a native of Florence, Alabama, her career in music began when she was at the age 20, when she lent her voice to Timeless hits like Elvis Presley’s Suspicious Minds and Percy Sledge’s When a Man Loves a Woman. Her Voice which was rich and full of emotions successfully adding her voice into an Era of amazing soundtrack.
In the early 1970s, she had become a part of the Grateful Dead Band with her loving husband, pianist Keith Godchaux, bringing soulful melodies to classic music like Scarlet Begonias and From The Heart of Me. Fans will always remember her as a vocalist who mastered the ability to blend tenderness with raw power.
After Keith’s death Donna still kept on making really good music that touched the hearts of all who listened. Despite her passing, the legacy of her touching music that she had built over the past decades will continue to inspire generations to come.
