Human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has dismissed talk about former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to politics, warning Nigerians not to expect miracles from any single leader.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Farotimi said Nigeria’s real problem lies in its broken system, not in the personalities leading it.
“A thousand Goodluck Ebele Jonathans cannot solve Nigeria’s problems,” he said. “Even if you made him a thousand times smarter, nothing will change unless we fix our structural problems and face the truth.”
Farotimi reminded viewers that Jonathan was once removed from office amid loud promises of a better Nigeria, but the same challenges remain.
He warned that removing President Bola Tinubu today, without reforming the “evil system” that keeps producing failed leaders, would only continue the cycle of disappointment.
“They can recycle all these people as much as they want,” he noted. “The same Jonathan who was called unfit is now being talked about as a saviour.
This is just another distraction from those ruining the country.”
According to Farotimi, Nigeria needs strong institutions and long-lasting systems that work, not a search for a political messiah.
He questioned how, ten years after Jonathan’s exit in 2015, people now believe the country was better off under him.
“It’s about building systems, not rebranding past leaders as saints,” he concluded.
