The community of Davie, Florida, is left devastated by the tragic loss of 20-year-old Aileen Martinez. The young cosmetology student’s life was cut short in a devastating shooting earlier this week.
On Tuesday afternoon, Aileen was sitting inside a parked car outside the Aveda Institute South Florida when she was fatally shot by her 25-year-old former boyfriend, Jose Orpi. Following the heartbreaking attack, authorities say Orpi then took his own life.
The terrifying incident brought a massive police response to University Drive and briefly forced nearby schools into lockdown while officers secured the area and confirmed there was no further danger.
Aileen, a North Miami resident, is being remembered by her loved ones as a creative and determined young woman who brought warmth and laughter wherever she went.
She was working hard to build a future in the beauty industry and also spent years passionately performing music with local bands. She is survived by her parents and two siblings, who will announce funeral arrangements soon as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
