The town of Bridgeton, North Carolina is very sad after the sudden death of 67-year-old Linda Williams. She was hit by a pickup truck on Wednesday night while crossing U.S. Highway 17 near Fisher Street, a path she often walked in the evenings.
Troopers say the crash happened around 8:44 p.m. near the Hardee’s many locals visit after work. A white pickup pulling a trailer tried to swerve but could not avoid Linda in the southbound lanes. She was rushed to CarolinaEast Medical Center but did not survive. The driver showed no signs of impairment, and no charges are expected.
People who knew Linda say she had a soft voice that made short talks feel warm. Neighbors remember her checking on older residents, bringing small gifts, or waving to kids on bikes from her porch. One woman said Linda “never passed you without asking how you were holding up,” a habit now deeply missed.
Bridgeton is grieving together, sharing memories of a woman who made life kinder in quiet ways. As family and friends prepare to honor her, many say her compassion will keep shaping the community she touched so deeply.
