The community of New York soccer is mourning the heartbreaking loss of respected coach, guide, and teacher, Paul Kontonis, whose impact formed the youth soccer program.
Paul’s life was cut short at 54, leaving his family, players, and coworkers in a shocked, sad state, trying to understand this sudden loss.
According to his friends, Paul lit up every room he walked into, and he worked hard to create opportunities for the youth of New Youth.
Only 8 days before his demise, he welcomed young players at a college exhibit. He was on the field at Queen’s College, smiling confidently. Many now hold that memory close.
Kontonis’s profession in coaching was widespread. Paul coached several clubs, including BW Gottschee. He was a doting father and beloved coach.
The man coached and directed the soccer club at Eleftheria Pancyprian, and he also served as president at Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League.
His coworkers describe him as excellent, benevolent, and inspiring. He was a firm believer in helping players develop both in soccer and in life.
