Losing a loved member of the Dallas Texas community is devastating, Jose Benitez, a security guard quite popular in the community was involved in a hit and run crash accident on Sunday that claimed his life.
Witnesses say that the 38 year old Jose Benitez was crossing West Davis Street when a white SUV sped towards and through him. The hit was so hard that bystanders rushed to him and despite the timely arrival of the Dallas Fire Department Jose was declared dead on the scene.
Fellow co worker Saul Torres shared that “He was loyal, humble and always looked out for others” speaking through a translator he also said “He moved through the shadows but his presence was always felt.”
Authorities were able to apprehend and arrest 29 year old John Alvarez, who allegedly fled after the incident occurred. He now faces intoxication manslaughter charges and is being held on a $150,000 bond.
On Monday night, candles, flowers and photos covered the sidewalk outside El Gordo Seafood, where friends gathered to honor Benitez. Many shared all the wonderful moments they had with him.
A vigil will be held Thursday at La Yarda, where Jose once worked – his absence now deeply felt by all those who knew him.
