The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday in a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both at home and abroad on reaching this historic milestone. He described Independence Day as a reminder of the country’s strength, unity, and the resilience of its people since 1960.
He also called on citizens to hold on to the values of patriotism and hard work, stressing that these principles have kept Nigeria together through many challenges.
The minister urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, according to him, is focused on rebuilding the nation, boosting the economy, and creating opportunities for all.
“As we mark this 65th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our faith in Nigeria and commit to peace, progress, and national development,” he said.
Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism that with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the nation would continue to thrive and achieve its great potential. He wished the people a happy and memorable Independence celebration.
