Fear and sorrow have gripped the people of Dogo Ruwa, a small community in Bashar district, Wase LGA of Plateau State, after armed bandits ambushed a security team and killed two soldiers and two vigilantes.
The tragic incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, around 1 a.m. According to locals, the security team had been alerted after hearing reports that bandits were planning an attack on the village. Acting fast, the soldiers and vigilantes set out to confront the threat, but they were caught off guard.
The bandits laid an ambush, hiding in the dark until the security men arrived. They opened fire suddenly, killing four men on the spot. To make matters worse, the attackers stole the soldiers’ rifles and uniforms, a move that has raised serious security concerns in the area.
Abdullahi Yakuku, a respected traditional leader overseeing the community, confirmed the attack. He expressed sadness and described the situation as painful and shocking. “The security team was responding to a threat, but sadly, the bandits were one step ahead,” he said.
A resident, Ibrahim Sale, shared that the loss has thrown the entire community into confusion. People are scared, especially knowing that the same men who attacked might now be posing as soldiers with the stolen uniforms.
The killing of these security personnel is not just a loss to their families but to the whole community that depends on them for protection. As fear spreads, locals are now calling on the government to send reinforcements and ensure that justice is served.
