The city of Miami Beach is very sad about the loss of Jo Ann Weiss Sawitz Bass. She passed away peacefully at her home on January 31 at the age of 94.
Jo Ann was the beloved leader of the famous restaurant, Joe’s Stone Crab. Her grandfather started the business many years ago, and Jo Ann grew up there. She started working as a teenager and later led the restaurant with her son.
Jo Ann worked very hard to protect her family’s traditions through the years. Even though famous people ate there, she treated every single guest with the exact same warm kindness.
Her loved ones will miss her deeply. To her family, she was much more than a boss; she was simply “Mom.”
