What are the best songs of Mercy Chinwo? Let’s begin with the woman herself. Mercy Chinwo-Blessed, who is widely regarded as MM1, is more than a gospel singer or worship/praise leader. She’s the poster woman for berets. You don’t even have to be Christian to know her. I bet for the average Nigerian, she’s one of the first people you’d think about when you see a beret.
MM1 is first a music minister/gospel worship leader. Her songs are all to glorify God– whether in gratitude for His love, His wonders, or His faithfulness. It feels like she just brings us into her own worship atmosphere, and the Lifter made her famous.
Made for the stage, her first stage entry was in 2012 at the second season of Nigerian Idol. She electrified the judges and the audience, and even from that far back, she went in a regalia of praise. I’ve seen clips of her on YouTube singing “Igwe.” Not only did she emerge as the winner, but it also gave her a platform.
She came back in full force five years later (2017), when she got signed to Eezee Concepts, where she released successful albums and tracks. From 2017 till date, she has moved us to worship and praise God better with her songs. Let’s take a look at some of her most well-known songs.

Top Mercy Chinwo Songs
Let’s take a look at her songs from the most popular praise and worship lens. I think that’s a great way to look at it, especially since Christians are a major audience. Below are some of her top songs.
1. Excess Love
This was the song that introduced me to her. It was the one we used for my secondary school graduation in 2018. Her voice had just begun to emerge, but the song was everywhere. I remember a friend called me to ask for the musician, and I said, “I think she’s Mercy Chinwo.” Nobody is “thinking” now. Everybody knows.
“Excess Love” is a song of immense gratitude to the Lord. It gets you thinking about the depth of the love of Jesus and how He fills you with so much peace and joy. The song may be more than 7 years old, but Jesus still loves you too much.
2. Wonder
This is from her “Elevated” album from 2023. Not only did God give MM1 a brand new song on this track, but He gave us all. She talks about how new the mercies of God are and how wonderful it is.
The chorus “you dey do wonder eh…you turned my life around, gave me a brand new song, you dey do wonder eh” tells us the whole story.
3. You Do This One
She said, “Put on your dancing shoes” on this track. Right from the sounds in the intro, we knew this was going to make us dance as we praised.
“This one,” of course, is many things for many people, but when MM1 released the video in 2024, “this one” was her pregnancy announcement. Like I said, she brings us into her own atmosphere with God, but we can all relate in different forms.
4. Chinedum
You know how good and gracious someone would be to make you know a song that isn’t in a language you speak or understand word for word? That’s something she steadily does. She often brings her Igbo roots into her songs, and we don’t love them any less.
“Chinedum” is Igbo for “God directs me,” or “God is following me.” This was from her 2020 “Satisfied” album, and the message is the acknowledgement that except God builds a house, the builders build in vain, so she’ll follow His leading.
5. Obinasom
This was another track from the “Satisfied” album that added to our Igbo vocab (non-Igbos). It means “my heart is joyful.”
Here’s why, the way God carries our matters on His head (a Nigerian way or saying to take someone very seriously or have someone constantly on your mind) is overwhelming. A whole God caring so much about you definitely gives you butterflies in your belly.
6. Na You Dey Reign
For our non-Nigerian audience, it means You’re the one reigning or You reign. You must wonder why Nigerians sing in pidgin and their native tongues when they can speak English. Why not?
“From generation to generation/ From Liberia to Jamaica/ You no dey carry last…/ You be authen…authentic God.” That’s the message: that Jesus is infinitely and unreplaceably King.
7. We Move
It means we go forward, we change location. Don’t we all want to move? This is a recent song from 2025. It announces the year as a season of increase as God has gone ahead to make every crooked path straight.
It’s a forward ever, backward never season with a supernatural speed advantage. Songs like this are good for meditation.
8. Confidence
As a Christian, you know that the arm of flesh will fail you; that’s why you trust in God for exploits and everything else, in fact. This was the message she helped us put in a melody.
She reminds us that we’re at rest because of Jesus, who is the author and finisher. That is, the beginning and the end. The implication is that He’ll be with you from the beginning to the end. If one with God is a majority, what more do you need? That’s where the confidence of believers lies.
9. Omekannaya
This song has so much depth. Omekannaya is the “replica of his father.” What she says about Jesus in Igbo on this track is that things change when He’s involved, and whatever He says comes to pass.
She says men may not understand how far He has brought her, but she does. From 2020, when she released it, till now, she acknowledges that He’s the holy one who does big things for her, and He deserves the glory.
10. Too Many Reasons ft Chioma Jesus
Her songs are evergreen, and it’s little wonder why. We all have too many reasons to give God praise, from air to meeting our every need. She released this in 2024, but it remains timeless.
She features Chioma Jesus, another phenomenal music minister, and on the second track, where she sings in Igbo, she says the mouth cannot tell all the good things He has done and prayers God has answered.

Fun Fact
Since we started with her beret signature, let’s close on this fun note. Remember the throwback video we found after her wedding to Pastor Blessed? In case you didn’t see it, she went to his Church to minister, and he was the one introducing her.
Paraphrasing, he said he loved her so much, and she was like a sister to him. She made berets look so beautiful. Now in 2025, three years into marriage with Pastor Blessed and blessed with two wonderful babies, Mercy is truly Blessed.
Conclusion
From a rising star in Nigerian Idol to the voice of a generation that has blessed millions. MM1 is a blessed voice. From worship service to worldwide playlists, her voice brings people closer to God. She’s one of the most powerful voices in gospel music today.
In case you have never actively sought out her songs outside of Church, this is a beautiful day to listen to her songs, as they’re available on all streaming platforms. Her videos are all available on YouTube.
