A fresh conflict is brewing between the Nigerian Navy and the yet-to-be-established Nigerian Coast Guard.
The Navy recently arrested nine people in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom, accusing them of illegal maritime activities.
But the Coast Guard, whose creation is still awaiting Senate approval, says the arrested persons are its members and did nothing wrong.
They have written a petition to the Ministry of Defence, calling the arrests illegal and demanding their immediate release.
The Navy insists the arrests followed the law, but the Coast Guard wants a full investigation and respect for their operations.
