A calm moment in a car was turned into a tragic loss of a 19-year-old Zynaija Thomas on the 1st of December, who was killed in what the local authorities believed to be a drive-by attack.
The deceased was about 19 weeks pregnant. She sat in the passenger seat beside her boyfriend when an incoming pulled up and started shooting. The investigators established the fact that the shooting happened in the 600 Block of Roberts Street. The deceased only stopped for a brief moment. The community remembered later that there was a sudden burst of gunshots, followed by the sound of a car on a full speed.
The locals arrested a 17-year-old suspect whose name was Ja’kaurie Bell, who people testified was behind the wheel of the shooter’s car. He is set to face charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a murder crime. The deceased boyfriend survived but was scared of the situation. He was able to rush her girlfriend to the medical center all by himself. Unfortunately, she and the unborn child were dead.
The neighborhood said that they are scared of what happened. A man said he was unable to stop thinking about “all the young lives being lost.” Another disclosed that he could still remember the couple sitting in the car, which keeps replaying in his mind.
The investigators won’t stop searching for the suspects. Presently, the relatives mourn the young dead woman whose life was shortened.
