The community of St Charles experienced a moment of sorrow when they heard about the sudden loss of 52-year-old Sarah McCarthy, who had been a member of the Saint Charles County Ambulance District for a long period of time.
Sarah died on the 9th of December 2025 during an ongoing medical emergency that occurred while she was on duty, doing the work she was passionate about. She lived her final moment surrounded by coworkers and her relatives, leaving behind a legacy built on kindness and service.
Colleagues at work testified that Sarah had a habit of placing a small candy into her pocket each morning, just in case someone needed to come alive. Those little gestures from her became popular, which patients and collaborators anticipated.
The deceased served SCCAD for 23 years, always going beyond expectations. As she was comforting children, checking on homeless residents during the winter nights, or advising struggling teammates, she had affection for everyone who called.
Colleagues and members of the community paid tributes to her and described her as a bright, steady presence who made everyone feel seen. A colleague at work testified to how Sarah never allows anyone to walk away without feeling loved.
Her relatives will declare funeral plans soon, as the members of the community prepare to honour a woman whose legacy will be felt for generations.
