Mary Johnson, a woman who went missing since November 2020 and left no traces behind has been found or at least what remains of her. The remains of Mary Johnson were discovered in a remote area of Northwestern Washington State.
39-year old Mary Johnson was an enrolled member of the Tulalip Tribes, was last seen walking along Fire Trail Road on the Tulalip Reservation, heading to a friend’s house. She was reported to have gone missing on December 9, 2020.
The authorities and police in charge of her case and the ones who found her remains conducted a DNA test which showed that the remains was indeed Mary Johnson. The cause of her death still remains unknown and the authorities have also placed a $60,000 reward on information leading to those responsible.
Mary Johnson’s case puts emphasis on the rising issue of missing and murdered indigenous women; this problem has been long overlooked for many years. Activists and Authorities are advocating for more resources to address these crimes and problems.
