The grand community of music has lost an icon in the industry. Dr. David Stringham was a beloved SUNY professor whose influence far exceeded the classroom where he taught.
His creative approach to teaching, bright personality and warm smile made him very popular amongst his peers and students, Dr. Stringham used his deep love for music to inspire the coming generation to see the art in sound and love it as well.
Colleagues recall him as a visionary who pushed boundaries and made music education lively. Past students say that the insurmountable belief he had in them changed their lives forever. “He made you believe you could do something great.” One of his students shared.
Before joining SUNY, Dr. Stringham was a teacher at the James Madison University, where he was head of Jazz ensembles, he also taught music technology and led innovation through programs like the Office of Creative Propulsion. His dedication to both education and community is immeasurable.
Despite his unexpected passing his legacy of music and innovation will live on forever in every student he taught and mentored.
