Former House of Reps minority leader, Farouq Aliyu, has criticised Peter Obi over his recent promise to serve just one term if elected president in 2027.
Aliyu described Obi’s statement as “ignorant” and not well thought out.
Speaking on Arise TV, Aliyu said Obi was speaking like someone who doesn’t fully understand how Nigeria works.
“Running a small state is different from running a whole country,” he said, referring to Obi’s time as governor of Anambra State.
He added that Obi’s pledge was mere campaign talk meant to attract support.
“It’s just to convince people. But when you’re outside the presidency, you don’t see the full picture,” he said.
Aliyu also commented on the growing opposition coalition. While he admitted that the leaders are respected, he believes they pose no real threat to the APC.
“We admire them, but they don’t shake us. We will continue to block their moves,” he said.
Peter Obi’s one-term promise has sparked national conversations, especially among young voters, but Aliyu insists it is nothing more than political sugar-coating.
As 2027 draws closer, debates like this are expected to shape Nigeria’s political future.
