A quiet neighborhood in Longmont, Colorado, is searching for answers after an officer-involved shooting left an armed woman dead. The tragic incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon when police responded to a call regarding a suicidal woman.
Around 4:15 p.m., officers arrived at the home and initially made contact. Hoping to safely de-escalate the tense situation, they temporarily stepped away from the residence. Moments later, investigators say a single gunshot rang out from inside the property’s garage.
Officers quickly returned and attempted to negotiate with the woman. They spent time speaking calmly but firmly, focused entirely on convincing her to come outside safely. Unfortunately, police report that the woman eventually emerged from the garage while holding a firearm.
Faced with the armed individual, an officer discharged his weapon and struck her. Emergency responders immediately rushed the injured woman to a local hospital for treatment, but doctors were unable to save her life.
Authorities successfully recovered her firearm at the scene. An active investigation is currently underway to carefully examine every detail of the deadly encounter.
