Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly criticised the ongoing constitutional amendment by Nigeria’s National Assembly.
Speaking at the 7th Penpushing annual lecture in Ogun State, she described the review as a “charade” and a “waste of public money.”
Ezekwesili said what Nigeria truly needs is a brand-new constitution that will give more power to the people and fix deep-rooted problems like insecurity, poverty, and poor governance.
She also warned that politics in Nigeria has been taken over by “criminal gangs” who only serve themselves, not the people.
According to her, “This amendment won’t solve anything. We need a fresh start built on justice and fairness.”
She urged the media to push for a people-led constitutional conference and called on Nigerians to demand better leadership.
