The Nigeria Police Force has clarified the recent arrest of interior designer Amaka Obasi amid a contract dispute with Afrobeats star Rema.
On Tuesday, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) released a statement addressing the widespread claims on social media that Obasi was being harassed and unlawfully detained on Rema’s orders.
According to the police, the arrest followed a formal petition accusing Ardeb Lifestyle Company, Obasi’s business, of failing to complete a ₦386 million project.
The petition claims that while Obasi received an upfront payment of ₦287 million for the job, the property was left unfinished and some furniture was missing.
Further investigation revealed that part of the funds were allegedly transferred to another account, and Obasi’s business account was not properly registered.
Despite being asked to provide an independent report to confirm the situation, Obasi reportedly declined to cooperate.
The police confirmed that the arrest was not intended as intimidation but was based on the legal dispute. Meanwhile, Rema’s involvement has sparked online debates, with many questioning how celebrities manage business agreements.
As of now, neither Rema nor Obasi has publicly commented on the police statement, and the case continues to unfold.
