A calm Saturday afternoon was turned into an unhappy moment when the community heard a gunfire burst inside a small house near Jackson Avenue and McLaren Street, which resulted in 2 people dead and several others injured.
One of the casualties was just 25 years old, named Josh Fondren Jr, a young father whose relatives say he was on the lookout to watch his 8-month-old child mature. The local authorities said the shooting occurred around 3:15 pm. The authorities got to the scene just to find multiple people injured. Josh was confirmed dead at the scene, while the 22-year-old Cori May, who was shot, was rushed to the medical center but died from her injuries.
Two 25-year-old men were found in severe condition, while a 4-year-old child got minor injuries. The relatives portrayed Josh as easygoing and hopeful, a man who was hardworking and had wide dreams for his family. A member of the family said the toughest part is knowing his baby “will never get to see his daddy”.
Police trust that the attack was not accidental, though they have not disclosed a possible motive. The suspected killer ran away and hasn’t been detained.
The loss comes just days after another violent crisis in the city, leaving the whole neighborhood terrified and calling for help. Police are requesting that anyone with any bit of information reach out to them as the community looks for justice.
