On Wednesday, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State launched the domestication of the National Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy in Ilorin, marking a significant milestone for women’s empowerment in the state. Kwara becomes the first state in the North-Central zone to adopt this important national policy.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that this initiative is designed to create more opportunities for women, dismantling systemic barriers in sectors like public contracts and leadership. “We aim to build a Kwara where no woman is left behind and every girl can aspire to greatness,” he stated.

The governor also highlighted that Kwara’s previous initiatives, such as the Gender Composition Bill, which mandates at least 35% women in appointive positions, have set a national benchmark for gender mainstreaming. He urged everyone to support women’s education, skills, and businesses to close the gender earnings gap and unlock the full economic potential of women.
The First Lady of Kwara, Mrs. AbdulRazaq, praised the efforts of the state government in empowering women, stressing that such strategic investments are crucial to overcoming the barriers women face in education and financial opportunities. She also commended the national leadership of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support of gender inclusion.
The event was organized by the Office of Kwara’s First Lady, in collaboration with the Ajike People’s Support Centre and Eden Venture Group.
