The community of Rocky Mount, Virginia, was devastated when it heard about the multiple losses of 55-year-old James Randolph Smith and 41-year-old Tina Marie Spencer, both found inside a red colored SUV on Patti Road on the morning of December 5.
They both suffered from a fatal gunshot wound, which left the community investigating for answers and grieving about the sudden death of the familiar faces. Deputies arrived at the scene after a 911 caller reached out to them about an unresponsive person in the vehicle.
Neighbors were traumatised about the scene as the investigators carefully worked around the SUV and collected samples that might explain what transpired in those final moments.
Smith and Spencer were residents of the Rocky Mount area for ages. People who were close to them said they frequently saw Smith repairing something at his truck in the driveway, while Spencer was known for her warm conversation during quick stops at local stores. Their loss left a space in the community of Rocky Mount, where people were cherished.
First report points to a murder – sucide, even though authorities await full autopsy and toxicology results. Counselors and mental health resources have been provided as residents in the community struggle to cope with the emotional impact.
