The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Nasir Muazu, has revealed a troubling truth informants within local communities are responsible for nearly 80% of bandit attacks in the state.
Speaking after a security meeting at the Government House on Thursday, Dr. Muazu explained that some residents, driven by greed, are secretly helping bandits. “They sell fuel to them at ₦5,000 per litre, and even soft drinks for ₦3,000,” he said.
In a shocking case, a man allegedly worked with kidnappers to abduct his own diabetic father. After collecting ₦30 million in ransom, the son reportedly received ₦8 million for his betrayal. Even more alarming, the bandits had already bought his father’s diabetic medicine before the abduction.
Muazu also accused informants of alerting criminals about military airstrikes, helping them escape before jets arrive.
He stressed that while some progress has been made through military efforts, more community cooperation and non-violent strategies are urgently needed.
The Commissioner urged citizens to stop shielding criminals and instead work with the government to bring lasting peace to Katsina. “Without trust and unity,” he said, “we cannot defeat insecurity.”
