A quiet neighborhood in Monrovia, Indiana, has been deeply shaken after a tragic incident left a husband and wife dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
On the afternoon of February 23, 2026, deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a distressing 911 call. The caller reported a chilling confession from a man inside a home on North Sashing Way, who allegedly admitted he had just shot his wife.
As officers carefully entered the residence, they heard a sudden gunshot from inside. Deputies subsequently discovered both the man and the woman dead. Authorities have not yet released the couple’s names as the investigation continues.
A four-year-old girl was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, she was not physically harmed but was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. She was later reunited with her nine-year-old sibling, who had been at school during the incident. Both children are now safely in the care of state child services.
Neighbors say the street is usually very calm, making the violent shock even deeper for the community. Sheriff Rich Meyers called the heartbreaking situation a tragedy and urged anyone experiencing severe conflict to seek help instead of turning to violence.
