Liverpool is closing in on the summer signing of Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, with the 18-year-old defender set to strengthen the team’s backline.
After weeks of scouting, the Reds are reportedly finalizing a deal to bring Leoni to Anfield. The move comes after Jarell Quansah’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen, which left a gap in Liverpool’s defense.
Leoni, a promising talent, has already made 17 appearances for Parma, including a memorable goal against Cagliari.
His potential has impressed manager Arne Slot, who views the young defender as a long-term solution to strengthen Liverpool’s squad.
The deal is moving forward, with reports indicating that Liverpool has reached a “full verbal agreement” with Leoni.
While a transfer fee is yet to be finalized, talks with Parma are said to be progressing. The defender is eager to join Liverpool immediately, signaling his readiness for a move to the Premier League.
Once Leoni’s transfer is completed, Liverpool will shift their focus to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. The English center-back is in the final year of his contract, and Liverpool is keen to sign him before the window closes.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that Guehi will be sold if the right offer is made, with a price tag of around £50 million.
However, Liverpool may opt to wait until next summer to secure Guehi on a free transfer, although that could invite competition from other clubs.
In addition to these defensive targets, Liverpool has also been linked with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker has made it clear he wants to leave, and while Liverpool initially pulled out of negotiations, there are indications they may return with another bid if Newcastle is willing to negotiate.
With the summer transfer window closing soon, Liverpool is working hard to strengthen their squad, with Leoni’s deal expected to be the first of many moves to come.
