The country of Canada is deeply saddened by the loss of Kirsty Duncan. The respected former cabinet minister and longtime member of Parliament passed away on January 26, 2026, at the age of 59, after a brave and public battle with cancer.
Kirsty spent nearly two decades as a dedicated public servant, representing the community of Etobicoke North from 2008 to 2025. Before entering politics, she was a talented environmental scientist and academic.
Under Justin Trudeau’s administration, she used her background to serve as Canada’s Minister of Science and Minister of Sport, where she pushed for stronger research funding and innovation.
Even while facing serious health struggles, Kirsty showed incredible determination. She bravely spoke openly about her cancer treatments to encourage others and even returned to work in Parliament while fighting her illness.
