The Federal Government has unveiled a revised National Employment Policy (NEP 2025) aimed at reducing poverty and creating jobs for millions of Nigerians, especially the youth.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, launched the new policy, describing it as “bold, inclusive, and fit for the future.”
He said the policy responds directly to the high rate of unemployment, underemployment, and poor job conditions in Nigeria.
Dingyadi noted that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed serious weaknesses in the country’s labour system. He explained that the new policy is designed to work in today’s changing world, where automation, climate change, and digital technology are reshaping how people work.
NEP 2025 is tied closely to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It aims to formalise informal jobs, support women, youth, and people with disabilities, and open up new sectors like the digital, green, blue, and creative economies.
The policy also promotes remote work, especially for people who cannot easily access regular office jobs.
Dingyadi called on state governments to adopt the policy and urged private companies to support job creation by investing in skills, innovation, and formal job sectors.
He said young people and workers must stay involved and hold leaders accountable to ensure that the plan succeeds.
