Former senator and 2023 Kogi governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to his ward chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State, Melaye said his decision was based on the PDP’s inability to provide strong leadership or tackle Nigeria’s deep-rooted political problems.
Announcing the news publicly via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Melaye stated, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.”
He accused the party of lacking “potency and capacity” to rescue Nigerians from what he described as political “cankerworms.”
Melaye added that after deep reflection, he could no longer, in good conscience, support or remain part of the PDP’s current direction. He made it clear that his resignation takes effect immediately and applies across all levels of the party.
He ended the letter by thanking the PDP for the chance to serve during his time in the party.
