A calm Saturday morning was turned into a mourning moment when a 57-year-old Christopher Jankoviak of Niles died in a deadly crash at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 in Marshall County.
The accident occurred just before 8 a.m., which shook the local community. The Marshall County Coroner shared how the deceased was driving west in a Chevrolet Equinox when his car was hit by a northbound semitruck that collided directly into the driver’s side. The force was so serious that Jankovial died immediately.
A passenger who was with him in the car was taken to a hospital in South Bend. Their case hasn’t been announced to the public. The collision between the two vehicles raised concerns about the safety of the road, a spot where the authorities said they’ve witnessed countless accidents. As of last month, a semi rollover happened at that particular road.
The death of Christopher Jankoviak brought a painful reminder of how dangerous undeveloped roads can be, particularly during early hours.
Investigators encouraged drivers to take note of the caution signs and stay away from the area if possible until further notice.
For countless people in the area, this sudden loss is a call for change, which is also a heartbreaking moment that will be remembered for a long period of time.
