The Wicklow community experienced a wave of sorrow when they heard about the premature death of Matthew Breen, a boy who died at the age of 8 years old and had medical issues that led to a sorrowful end on the 17th of November 2025.
It all started with the issue of a broken arm at school, and led to the fight for his life. The negative reports from the hospital made his loved ones and the residents nearby overwhelmed.
His family said that after the injury occurred, he was doing well and was even smiling in the midst of the pain he was going through. As days went by, the case started to worsen; he had difficulty breathing and was constantly vomiting, which made him very fragile.
The mother had to rush him to the hospital he was treated initially, named Crumlin Hospital. The medical personnel had to make him unconscious for a while. All the effort to help Matthew come to his full health was not successful, so he died with his family holding His hands.
Relatives portrayed him as someone who is loving and whose light fills the room. He was always giving a helping hand by assisting with the chores without being told. There was a foundation founded by his sister in law called A GoFundMe to help support residents nearby and strangers.
Matthew might have died prematurely, but he left a mark on the sands of time.
