Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has put to rest all doubts regarding his political future, declaring that he will run for president in the 2027 general elections.
This statement comes after recent speculation suggesting he might opt out of the race.
Atiku, who made the announcement during a recent conversation from his holiday home in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasized his commitment to the future of Nigeria, saying his goal is to rescue the country from its current state of decline.
He described the nation as being in the “intensive care unit,” facing widespread poverty, corruption, and a loss of values, which he finds unacceptable.
The controversy began when Professor Ola Olateju, who represented Atiku at an event in Lagos, suggested that the former Vice President was more focused on building a better Nigeria than being president.
This comment sparked debate, as it seemed to imply that Atiku was not intent on running for office in 2027. However, Atiku quickly disowned the statement, clarifying that it did not reflect his views.
Atiku went on to state, “I will run in 2027. Nigeria needs a decisive rescue.”
He further explained that the coalition he leads under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aims to galvanize widespread support for Nigeria’s recovery.
He assured his supporters that the ADC movement would disrupt the political landscape, leaving skeptics stunned.
In his call to action, Atiku stressed the urgency of reclaiming and rebuilding the country, committing himself to lead this transformation in 2027.
His declaration has sent ripples through the political landscape, reinforcing his ambition to shape Nigeria’s future.
