A tragic incident occurred at Old Dominion University when an armed attacker entered a classroom. The attack resulted in the death of 42-year-old Army ROTC leader Lt. Col. Brandon A. Shah.
Shah, a combat veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was teaching when the assailant entered. He immediately guided his students to safety and helped them respond to the sudden threat. Unfortunately, he was fatally wounded during these heroic efforts.
Instead of freezing in fear, several of his cadets bravely confronted the armed attacker. They successfully stopped the threat before local police could even arrive on the scene. Two students sustained injuries during the confrontation, but both are expected to survive.
The university has canceled classes to allow the campus community time to grieve. Students and colleagues remember Shah for his steady leadership and his dedication to mentoring young cadets. Many noted that he treated his students like family.
As the police investigation continues, the university is focusing on honoring Shah’s legacy. His final, brave actions reflected a lifelong commitment to service and sacrifice.
