
Afrobeats singer, Folarin Odunlami, better known as Fola, has opened up about the shocking experience that welcomed him when he first moved to Lagos in 2018.
In an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, the singer revealed that he was arrested on his very first day in the city and ended up spending the night at a police station.
“The very first day I came to Lagos, I was arrested. I slept at the police station,” Fola said, recalling the incident that almost made him give up on his music dream.
He explained that the experience left him demoralised and made him question whether relocating to Lagos was the right choice. Still, his passion for music pushed him to stay.
Not originally from Lagos, Fola admitted that adapting to the fast-paced, rough lifestyle of the city was not easy. However, he credits resilience and determination for helping him find his place in the industry.
Today, Fola looks back on that painful night as part of the struggle that shaped his journey. His story has resonated with fans, who see it as a reminder that behind every rising star lies a story of sacrifice and survival.
