The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said the scuffle between Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmansson, and a crew member is not the same as the case involving Fuji singer KWAM 1, who once blocked a taxiing aircraft.
Speaking on X Space, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimogu, explained that the authority did not order Emmansson’s ban or prosecution.
Instead, Ibom Air acted independently after reviewing available evidence, including footage showing the passenger hitting a cabin crew member.
Achimogu stressed that airlines have the right to protect their staff, who also deserve respect and safety.
He noted that unlike in some past incidents where a lack of evidence prevented sanctions, this case was clear.
While Ibom Air took the matter to court, ValueJet did not press charges in KWAM 1’s case, prompting NCAA to write to authorities.
Achimogu added that the dispute could still be resolved amicably but emphasised that crew members have the authority to restrain unruly passengers for the safety of all on board.
